| On this third Sunday of Lent, we ponder the remarkable encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well. The conversation begins with a simple request. Give me a drink…
Desire drives human life:
· We eat when we are hungry.
· we drink when we are thirsty.
· We rest when we are tired.
Beneath these bodily desires lies a deeper longing, a thirst for God himself. We are made not for passing satisfactions but for living water that wells up to eternal life.
Jesus gently draws the woman to recognize that deeper thirst within her heart. Once He awakens her desire, Jesus presents her with the truth. He does not expose her to humiliate her. He reveals the truth to heal her. Naming the truth, Jesus opens the path to freedom, they lead to conversion.
The conversation then turns to worship. True worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. It is the closest we come in this life to union with God.
This gospel is the pattern of the Christian journey: desire, truth, worship, and witness. |
